Why I Started Beach Pilates Dubai

Beach Pilates Dubai was a happy accident: a few friends, a mat on the sand and a trainee instructor who needed somewhere to practise. This is how it became a community built around movement, friendship and coffee.

Beach Pilates Dubai was a happy accident. It started so that I could simply practise teaching. I was training to be an instructor, and I wanted to practise. I didn't have a studio, so Pilates on the beach felt like the perfect way to do it.

I started by inviting a few of my closest friends down onto the beach one weekend for a free Pilates class. We came back almost every weekend, word spread and soon people were inviting their colleagues and friends along.

One morning in February 2026, I decided to create an Instagram account, which meant I would be able to reach more people, and soon I did.

That's how Beach Pilates Dubai came to be.

I didn't realise how much I craved these wholesome mornings in the sun, on the beach, and I wanted to create a class that felt less intimidating and more like a morning with friends. Somewhere you could move your body, spend time outside, meet new people and, ideally, get a coffee afterwards.

I loved that there would be no mirrors, no pressure to look a certain way and absolutely no requirement to arrive in a matching Pilates set (although we do appreciate a cute outfit when it happens). I wanted to create a morning where we could meet you where you're at.

Just a mat on the sand, the Dubai skyline in front of us and 45 minutes of movement that might make your core question a few of your life choices.

And so, Beach Pilates Dubai was born.

How Pilates Became My Therapy

I fell in love with Pilates about five years ago after it was recommended by my doctor, and since then it has become my THERAPY. The quiet I feel in my mind while I'm trying to survive the class is unmatched. It switches my brain off like nothing else.

My decision to train as an instructor came after a reset trip to Bali. I realised life was too short, I have free will, and why not just do the course? I genuinely love Pilates and wanted to learn the method for my own practice. And I thought teaching would be nice too, obviously.

I started to practise a lot on the beach and I would always leave for home feeling lighter. Getting up early, being in nature and doing something for myself was a feeling I would come to look forward to.

The Friends That Said Yes

After my training, I needed guinea pigs to practise on, and that's where my supportive network of friends came in.

They showed up for me like no one else throughout this journey. They came to the early classes, let me practise my cues, laughed with me when things didn't go entirely to plan (which is often when you're learning) and became my biggest cheerleaders.

Those first mornings were never about creating a business, or even a brand. They were simply about practising, spending time together and doing something that made us feel good.

Since I created my page and started to host small events, more and more new faces have come along. Some regularly and some just the once, but always bringing a great energy! Seeing everyone chatting before class, laughing through the burn and making plans for coffee afterwards made me realise that this could become something more.

Creating a Pilates Class That Felt Welcoming

Pilates can sometimes feel intimidating, especially when you're new. There's unfamiliar terminology, tiny movements that somehow burn more than anything else and the feeling that everyone else knows exactly what they're doing.

I wanted Beach Pilates Dubai to feel different.

You don't need to be flexible. You don't need to have done Pilates before. You don't need the latest activewear or the ability to hold a perfect plank while looking completely unbothered.

You just need to turn up.

Every class includes options for different experience levels, and there is never any pressure to do the hardest version of an exercise. Some mornings you might feel ready to add every pulse. On others, simply making it to the mat is enough.

The goal has always been to create a space where you can move without judgement, challenge yourself without punishment and leave feeling better than when you arrived.

More Than Pilates on the Beach

As the classes grew, I realised Beach Pilates Dubai had become about so much more than Pilates.

It's the conversations before class and the collective look of disbelief when I announce "just ten more." It's coming alone and leaving with someone to get coffee with. It's remembering somebody's name from the week before and noticing when a familiar face hasn't been there.

It's about creating space, in a city that can sometimes feel incredibly busy, to slow down, go outside and connect with other people.

Of course, we still practise Pilates. There are planks, glute bridges, side-lying series and more pulses than anyone technically asked for. But the community surrounding the class is what makes it truly special.

It's coming alone and leaving with someone to get coffee with.

Come Alone, Leave With Friends

One of the things I am most proud of is that so many people come to Beach Pilates Dubai alone.

Walking into any new fitness class by yourself can feel scary. Walking onto a public beach carrying a Pilates mat while wondering whether you're in the right place can feel even scarier.

But once you arrive, you're part of it.

There will always be space on the sand for someone new. Whether you bring your best friend, your work wife or simply yourself, you will be welcomed exactly as you are.

Because Beach Pilates Dubai was never meant to be the kind of class where you quietly arrive, work out and immediately leave. Stay for a chat. Join us for coffee. Laugh about how personally offended your glutes feel.

That is all part of the experience.

From a Happy Accident to Something I'm Proud Of

I didn't start Beach Pilates Dubai with a plan. I started with a few friends, a mat and a need to practise teaching.

But what began as a happy accident has grown into something I feel incredibly proud of. It has pushed me outside my comfort zone, introduced me to so many wonderful people and shown me what can happen when you stop waiting for the perfect moment and simply begin.

Beach Pilates Dubai is still growing, and I'm learning as I go. But the reason behind it remains the same: to create welcoming, feel-good Pilates classes where movement feels enjoyable and nobody takes themselves too seriously.

Just good movement, good people, sandy toes and, hopefully, a good coffee waiting for us afterwards.

I can't wait to see you on the mat. You can read a little more about me, or follow along on Instagram at @beachpilatesdubai.
